Neurology is the area of specialization that diagnoses and treats conditions involving the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles. By studying the natural history of neurologic disease and performing the neurologic examination, the neurologist, as diagnostician, is able to address what reasonable outcomes may occur from traumatic injuries to the central or peripheral nervous systems.

The diagnostic process encompasses a history and administration of a focused neurologic examination that addresses brain and non-brain based function. Comparing the latter findings with the imaging studies, medical records and/or cognitive based test performance (neuropsychological testing) is the role of the forensic neurologist.

Dr. Rubenstein, in his role as teacher and educator, is able to communicate the complexities of neurologic disease to varied audiences, including testifying as an expert witness.
